Thanks Claudio I have sent you a response. I'll try to navagate the Italian and try to post some photos!!! About the thickness of the Viotti I think its interesting. I was looking at a book about the Austrian National Bank collection and there where some interesting graduations listed there. One thi...

Good point! I have a player interested in the violin. He wanted a copy/model of the Strad that the orchestra owns here. Its 1698 or somehting and its a terrible violin. The upper eyes of the f holes are 32 mm apart or some damn thing. He likes it because its small!!! Manfio or Claudio do you have an...

It's a sweet violin. Really beautiful. 8O

I have been working from a Montagnana model for a while but I am itching to make this one.

To be honest I don't think it's over the arch but I could be wrong about that. I guess now thinking about it the measurement probably is.

Even so it's big!!!

Viotti Strad.

Hello long time no post!!!

I was wondering what you thought of the Viotti Strad poster with the The Strad this month Claudio?

I think I might make one after the violin I am currently working on. The only problem I see with it is that it's quite big 358 across the back, eck.

Claudio do you think that varnish should be think or thin? I worked on a Montagnana cello the other day and where the varnsih was unpolisehed(or less so) it was very, very, thick.

I was tought that thin is better, acustically. Anyway, do you have any thoughts about this?

(with a great danish accent) För Helvete! When I was in school we used a spirit varnish, fine enough I guess. The problme was that everyone treated the wood with dicromite first. The varnish itslef was also difficult to apply and wasn't, well, over transparent for one. The notion of polishing out 24...

Tack alldeles utmärkt. Hur står det till själv? Talar ni svenska? Thanks for the advice guys. I have used the varnish before, serveral times actually, with great results. The only problem this time is the that my inital coat didn't dry, well, it just sucked right into the wood. I had thought that th...

Claudio I use a colophonium/mastic varnish with linseed oil. I have use the same varnish, from the same batch, several times. The only thing that I have done differently this time is to dry the varnish without the use of a UV box. Its based on a recipe in the Gary Bease book, one part cp, one part m...

Varnish question.

Hello Claudio, How are things in Italy? It is still very cold here in Göteborg. Somewhat strange for this time of the year. Anyway, I was wondering if I could ask you if you have ever experinced varnish "bleeding" into your wood? I useally dry my varnish with a uv light, its broken now and...

Ciao piase, I am glad that you enjoyed Sweden. That area is very nice indeed. We had a very big strom here in January and thousands of hectares of forrest blew down. I heard a quote that if they stack all of the wood that fell during the strom in a 3 meter high 3 meter wide stack it could reach from...

Colophonium and hydrated lime that sounds interesting. How does it work? Or what is the procedure rather? I use a colophonium/mastic varnish with alittle venetian turps. It's basically the recipe from Gary Bease's book with the addition fo the vt. I have used amber varnish as well but I feel that it...
